The Hidden Place

And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, and made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me.
— Isaiah 49:2 NKJV

The hidden place is something the Bible refers to. It can be a real place. In Ex.33:21-23 God put Moses in this hidden place. God told him, "I will put you in the cleft of the Rock and I will cover you with my hand..."

This hidden place was gifted in a critical time in Moses' life and ministry. The people he was partnering with and the people he was leading into the Promise Land had brought severe disappointment to Moses. Moses emphatically told God, "unless Your Presence goes with me I do not want to go."

God answered him by putting him in the hidden place. It was here that Moses saw God's glory.

Sometimes we can feel so vulnerable and exposed in our walk of faith and obedience before people. Thank God for the hidden place where we can be real with God. It's a place for "His eyes only" and it is there we get to see something for "our eyes only."

The hidden place can be more than a physical place. The hidden place can be a deep dynamic in our spirit where God can do a lasting work deep in our spirit. This is a real and defining deposit of God's hand on us in the deepest part of who we are in God's hand.

This "polishing" is profoundly assisted by our co-operation as we cultivate a yielded spirit in the secret place of prayer. It is here where we can lay it all out before the Lord. All that we know and all that we do not know. All that we are and all that we are not.

Isa.49:2 reveals a work in who we become that will even surprise ourselves. We become an instrument in His hand! The people around us see the strength and the polished result but that is not what is the most valuable. It is the hidden place in our spirit that contains now a greater measure of trust, integrity and grace in us and a greater revelation of Him in the hidden place.

In His strength,
